Eilish, from the musical O'Connor family in Dundalk, Co. Louth, has played
the fiddle all over the world. One of a very musical family, her mother
Rose has been a well-respected fiddle teacher for many years, and brother
Gerry is known for his membership of Lá Lugh and Skylark.
Eilish carries with her a rich legacy of tunes and a distinctive and highly
personalised style. This album is a celebration of many musical friendships
she has made in her life playing traditional music. The tunes were recorded
in a series of house sessions that started around the kitchen table and
ended up around the mixing desk, and the result is a delightful,
beautifully played concoction
of various dance types, including a couple of brilliant Australian
mazurkas.
It features some old friends and some new neighbours living in
south Co.Galway who are among the finest musicians playing Irish music
today, including Mary Finn, Charlie Harris, Siobhan Kennedy, Eugene Lambe,
Marian McCarthy, Gerry O'Connor, Maire O'Keeffe, with accompaniment by
Donal O'Connor, Johnny McDonagh and Frank Kilkelly. John Faulkner lent his
invaluable skills as producer, and also added some bouzouki accompaniment.
The CD was launched to fine acclaim, and has been very well received by the
traditional music media.
